Role: Mechanical Engineer – Fleet & Plant Management
Location: Offaly
Type: Permanent, Full-Time (Contract) | Site-Based with Travel | Monday - Friday
Package: €Neg DOE 

You will be required to drive to other locations and must obtain your own vehicle

A Mechanical Engineer is required to oversee the management and maintenance of mechanical plant, marine vessels, and commercial vehicles used in civil engineering and water-based operations. The role involves fleet management, technical specification drafting, procurement, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and review mechanical plant, marine vessels, and commercial vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and vehicle operation laws.
  • Supervise mechanical foremen, fitters, and external service providers.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance, procurement, and system development for data analysis.
  • Implement health, safety, and environmental policies, including risk assessments.
  • Support carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
  • Identify training needs and support staff development.
  • Prepare technical reports and support audits and financial reporting.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:
  • Apply health and safety legislation relevant to fleet and plant management.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety inspections.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and liaise with relevant authorities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (Level 8 or equivalent) with mechanical/electrical content is required, along with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Candidates must have transport for nationwide travel and knowledge of construction plant maintenance, compliance obligations, and health and safety regulations.
  • Strong IT skills for engineering design, problem-solving, and project management are essential, along with experience in procurement, technical reporting, and understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
