Role: UK Import Forwarding Operations
Location: Dublin 17

A long-established road freight forwarder based in Dublin 17 is seeking to hire an experienced UK Groupage Import Operator with customs clearance knowledge. The purpose of the role is to assist the Operations Manager in the effective running of the busy UK Import Operations Department. This role demands a mix of organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of UK Import Groupage freight forwarding.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review import manifests, input shipment details into Azyra, ensure correct documentation is available to complete customs clearance and notify UK agents of any discrepancies or damaged cargo.
  • Arrange transport with hauliers, ensuring the right equipment and timing for each shipment.
  • Negotiate rates and secure cost-effective transport solutions.
  • Prepare and process all necessary customs documentation for UK-to-Ireland imports.
  • Process import declarations and complete customs clearance.
  • Monitor shipments from collection to delivery, updating customers and internal systems with tracking information.
  • Communicate with customers, hauliers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Handle queries related to transit times, shipping options, and costs.
  • Coordinate final-mile deliveries, ensuring goods are delivered on time and in good condition.
  • Work closely with Irish and UK-based depots for scheduling.
  • Prepare and issue invoices to clients, verify haulier invoices for accuracy, and address discrepancies.
  • Ensure adherence to international freight and Irish customs regulations.
  • Monitor changes in import/export legislation.
  • Provide quotes, respond to inquiries, and keep clients informed about shipment progress.
  • Handle any issues such as damaged goods, misrouting, or customs delays with professionalism.

Minimum Requirements;

  • Minimum of three years UK Groupage Import experience.
  • Expertise in UK and EU customs procedures, particularly post-Brexit requirements.
  • Ideally experienced within Azyra FMS and customs systems like AIS or other declaration platforms like Thyme IT.
  • Knowledge of transport and safety regulations, as well as driver working hours.
  • Liaise with ports or ferry operators for bookings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving or process improvements in the logistics chain.
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning & organising skills.
  • Excellent communication/telephone skills. 
  • Strong administrative and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure using own initiative.
